Humberstone House NPC is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). Humberstone operates a home-away-from-home care facility for intellectually disabled adults in Southern Suburbs, Cape Town.
Located around the corner from the Plumstead Station in a quiet cul-de-sac, our home has a relaxed and happy atmosphere. We are a family of brothers and sisters – cared for by our experienced house carers.
Humberstone currently has Four residents with space for Three more.

Our vision is of a community where all individuals and their contributions are valued, where those with special needs can live in safety and continue to develop.
Mission
Our mission is to establish and run a family sized residential home where adults with intellectual disability are supported to live, work and develop as independently as they are capable, as part of the community.

Our objectives
& purpose
Our home has a relaxed and happy atmosphere. We are a family of brothers and sisters – cared for by our experienced housemothers.
- Provide care, development and accommodation for intellectually disabled persons in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town and surrounding areas.
- Participate in the activities of the Western Cape Forum for Intellectual Disability and to assist poor or underprivileged persons with intellectual disability to secure accommodation.
- Facilitate residents working in the open job market, or protective workshop, or operate workshops for the intellectually disabled to enable them to be productively and creatively occupied and facilitate their ongoing social integration and development.
- To develop and promote best practice in the care of intellectually disabled persons, including those with mild, moderate and severe disabilities and those who exhibit challenging behaviors.
